Why do I write? Why do I want to be a writer?
I think that everyone who’s working hard on a certain passion or profession sooner or later comes to wonder the reason behind taking that definite path. The question is important for establishing the determination and stubbornness you will apply in obtaining what you desire. It was only a few days ago that I attended an interesting debate about how to break into writing organised by the magazine Den of Geek at the MCM ComicCon London. Six authors – among whom Debbie Moon, Ian Doescher and Grady Hendrix, introduced by Simon Brew, writer and editor at the said magazine - gave numerous tips to a very attentive and participating audience. During the Q&A moment, one of the authors asked a girl why she wanted to be a writer: that question struck me. I had never precisely thought about why I wanted to pursue this career. The reasons may vary and go from the noblest to the poorest:
I do believe that firstly writing is sharing. A writer is a person who lays down, black on white, his ideas with the intention of sharing. In their works, writers totally communicate their feelings for a character, their emotions for a situation, their thoughts for a certain fact. Writers and readers are strictly connected by this relationship; the firsts tell stories the seconds in order to communicate what they felt during the creation of their works. This is the duty of a writer; to make the readers feel what they felt. It’s a double-way relationship which becomes page after page, word after word, stronger and stronger. An author is not merely a creator of stories, but he soaks and fills the readers with ideas, principle and feelings by creating such a special connection that goes beyond any material purpose. Everybody who steps into writing career should bear in mind that their job is to hold readers’ hand for leading and involving them into their secret and personal world. .
